Grab your flip-flops, slap on some sunscreen, and join us for another phin-tastic morning with MERR as we help count dolphins along our beautiful Delaware coast!

Saturday, July 18
9:00–11:00 a.m.
Observation Post OP6a – South Side of Indian River Inlet
(Just steps away from the Big Chill Beach Club!)

We’re returning to our favorite spot for this important community science project, and we need your sharp eyes and dolphin-counting skills.

What do you need to bring?

A beach chair

Sunscreen (because nobody wants to look like a boiled lobster)

A hat and sunglasses

Water or your favorite beach beverage

Your ability to count: "One, two, three… fins to the left!"

No math degree required—just enthusiasm and a willingness to help protect our amazing marine neighbors.

Picture this: a beautiful summer morning with salty air, ocean breezes, fellow Parrot Heads, and dolphins putting on a show offshore. It’s the perfect blend of conservation, camaraderie, and coastal fun.

After the count, we’ll migrate like a flock of tropical birds up to the Big Chill Beach Club for lunch, cold beverages, and a little post-count storytelling.

Please remember that we’ll be inside a Delaware State Park, so you may need to show your State Park Pass or purchase a Day Pass upon entry.

And one more reason to join us: all member volunteers will be entered into our year-end volunteer raffle for a great prize!

NOTE: Please be kind and respectful to our servers. Like all other restaurants, the Wheelhouse is doing their best to stay staffed and provide us with the best service possible. If you have an issue with the service, please speak to one of our Board Members about it so we can handle it with The Wheelhouse management staff directly.

Dewey Goes Pink registration will open on August 1! The event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 3.

Here are the details:

DSPHC Team Name: Pirates of the CUREibbean
Event Date: The walk/run begins and ends at the Starboard in Dewey Beach. This year it's being held on Oct. 3 at 11:00 a.m.
Registration Date: Opens on Aug. 1 and it will sell out. An email reminder will be sent to Club Members on August 1.
What to Wear: As usual, participants should plan to wear either their black or pink team shirts and their best pirate gear. More information to come about t-shirts for those who would like to purchase one... In addition to the annual YEAR iron-ons we will offer SURVIVOR iron-ons for any member or guest who requests one. You do not need to participate in the walk/run to purchase a t-shirt.

Non-Walker Volunteers: We need after party attendees / non-walkers to arrive early and save a few tables for our team! (Also to be in the team photo )

Thanksgiving Dessert Drive for Higher Ground (Wed, November 25, 2026)

We are having a Thanksgiving Dessert Drive for Higher Ground again this year. If you’d like to join in, please provide any dessert you wish for their Thanksgiving Day meal. Think of it as spreading a little extra sunshine —because even in November, we can still live on island time.

Dessert donations can be dropped off:

to HGO on Wednesday, Nov. 25

to Becky Knowles on Monday - Wednesday, Nov. 23-25

Milton, DE 19968

We welcome any type of dessert that does not require refrigeration. The cutoff time for drop-off to Becky will be Noon on the 26th, giving us enough time to drive everything over to Higher Ground Outreach. They anticipate feeding 40 - 60 guests this year.

Please provide the dessert on something disposable so we don't have to chase dishes like beach umbrellas on a windy day.
